The Shambles
One of the most easily recognizable streets in York, or in fact, in England, The Shambles once was a meat market with buildings dating back to the 14th century, but is now a beautiful street with timber-framed Medieval architecture that is now a tourist hot spot. It's said to be inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter series, and the street's definitely leaned into the magical vibes, with some witchy shops to pop in - I particularly recommend The Society of Alchemists!
York City Walls
One of the most beautiful views of the city is from the York City Walls. They've been around since Roman times, and they traditionally were a way to guard the city from potential invaders. Now, they're a beautiful vantage point and the longest town walls in England.

Ye Olde Starre Inn
I love a good English pub, and Ye Olde Starre is the oldest one in York. If you're looking for a pint in a traditional English pub, this is the one for you! It's also conveniently located along Stonegate Street, which is a great place to grab a drink, a bite to eat, or people watch.
York Minster
One of the prettiest cathedrals in England, York Minster holds the record for the most stained glass windows in the UK, and some of it dates back to the 12th century. It was completed in 1472, and is a prime example of Gothic architecture.

Roots
I've been a big fan of Tommy Banks for years (tv chef programs are my favorite wind-down watch), and so taking myself to his Michelin-starred Roots York was such a treat. Though the restaurant is critically acclaimed, it doesn't feel stuffy at all, and the staff were so lovely and knowledgeable. The food, as expected, was delicious, and it was altogether a fantastic dining experience.

York Castle Museum
The York Castle Museum is one of the more unique museums I've been to in England. If you have any interest in fashion through the ages, there are many historical examples of textiles and clothing. The coolest part, though, is the indoor recreated Victorian street that shows a realistic portrayal of 19th century life. There are also plenty of interactive elements, like dress up, for children.

York Cocoa House
York is famous for its history of delicious chocolate, and the York Cocoa House Chocolate Emporium offers plenty of chocolate making classes and experiences, as well as selling truly delicious chocolate in both solid and drinking form.
St Mary's Abbey
I love beautiful ruins, and St Mary's Abbey is one of the most beautiful examples I've seen. The Benedictine monastery was built in 1088, but when Henry VIII dissolved the Catholic church, it was converted into a palace and eventually fell into ruin. Now, it's a beautiful and dramatic public garden.
Betty's Tearooms
Betty's is a British institution, and has existed in York since 1936. If you're looking for a lovely afternoon, book an Afternoon Tea in their cafe tea rooms, and make sure to visit their gift shop afterwards for the perfect souvenir.
National Railway Museum
Yorkshire has a rich history in the rail industry, and the National Railway Museum showcases several iconic trains throughout history - including the Mallard, which is the world's fastest steam locomotive engine. It's also really informative about the history of transport in Britain.
